The story of Indonesian nurse Fitra illustrates how international healthcare professionals can gain access to long-term career opportunities in Germany through comprehensive recruitment programs that begin in their home countries. Hanseatic Connect GmbH & Co. KG, based in Hamburg, combines structured candidate selection, language and professional training, and sustainable integration into the German healthcare system.

For Fitra, switching between languages has become part of everyday life. During our conversation, the 33-year-old intensive care nurse carefully ensures that his English does not interfere with the German he is currently learning. He is one of 20 healthcare professionals preparing for their B2 language certification at the Hanseatic Connect Academy in Denpasar, Bali. Their shared goal: building a professional future in Germany.

The journey to Germany starts in the country of origin

For Fitra, switching between languages has become part of everyday life. During our conversation, the 33-year-old intensive care nurse carefully ensures that his English does not interfere with the German he is currently learning. He is one of 20 healthcare professionals preparing for their B2 language certification at the Hanseatic Connect Academy in Denpasar, Bali. Their shared goal: building a professional future in Germany.

The idea of taking this major step originated within his professional network. Former colleagues who had already moved to Germany spoke highly of their experiences there.

“In Indonesia, for example, ten days of annual leave is often the maximum, frequently combined with unpaid overtime,” Fitra explains.

Germany, by contrast, offers significantly more vacation time, greater job security, and extensive opportunities for professional development—creating better working and living conditions overall.

Given the acute shortage of healthcare professionals, Germany relies on skilled immigration today and will continue to do so in the future. However, administrative complexity and often fragmented procedures remain significant challenges. According to Thomas Awiszus, Managing Director of Hanseatic Connect, the focus cannot be limited to recruitment alone. International professionals must also choose to stay in Germany long term.

The key challenge lies in managing expectations honestly and fostering a genuine culture of welcome. For many international professionals, unmet expectations regarding quality of life, workplace culture, or social openness can weigh more heavily than bureaucratic hurdles. Germany is competing on a global stage—not only through salaries, but through its attitude toward international talent.

Successful integration starts long before arrival

As part of the long-established Schulte Group, with its own infrastructure across the Indo-Pacific region, Sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa, and Latin America, Hanseatic Connect therefore follows a holistic and integration-focused approach.

The company supports healthcare professionals throughout their entire journey—from the initial application process and language training in their home country to integration courses, housing assistance, and administrative support after arrival in Germany. This ensures a structured and reliable transition from preparation abroad to successful professional and social integration in Germany.

Importantly, German quality standards are not introduced only after arrival; they are already implemented consistently in the candidates’ countries of origin. The effectiveness of this approach is reflected in the numbers: in India alone, Hanseatic Connect is currently preparing around 650 candidates for future placements in Germany—demonstrating that scalability and individualized training quality can go hand in hand.

Language, Training, and Integration as Success Factors

A key component of this success is the company’s own Hanseatic Connect Academy. The academy combines language training, profession-specific education, intercultural preparation, and support throughout the recognition process. For professionals like Fitra, the Academy provides the foundation for a successful start in Germany.

When candidates arrive in Germany, their journey does not end at the airport. Instead, the support they receive in their home country seamlessly continues through personalized assistance at their new place of residence and work.

For Hanseatic Connect’s partners, this approach represents far more than simply filling vacancies. It means gaining access to qualified and well-prepared professionals, benefiting from transparent processes, operational efficiency, and long-term workforce sustainability.

Sustainable talent acquisition succeeds when structure, responsibility, and humanity come together—for the benefit of everyone involved.
